Kinect Launch in Motion...
Company:
Microsoft Kinect Employee Launch
Purpose:
Limited Allocations of Kinect
Audience/Demographic:
Microsoft Employees
Solution:
Balancing demand, with supply is a challenge internally at Microsoft, as the employee base is extremely passionate about their products, but public distribution channels have always taken a front seat. Initially, the stores were allocated to receive 0 units at launch. A team of 3 directors, envisioned a better experience for the employee base, and 6 months prior to launch, started planning a nationwide rollout plan for both physical and online stores. After the proposed solution was reviewed by the group’s president, it was accepted and a pre-order solution was built, to help provide advanced sell-through information, and replenish the public supply chain. Not only was Kinect, one of the fastest selling devices in the history of electronics, but executing the Company Store plan helped it to be the fastest selling device in Company Store history as well. Employees were elated, prior to opening the doors, the line was just over ¼ mile long. The great experience they had, truly reinforced the value that eCompanyStore provides the team at Microsoft.
